One on the cold water line going into the bottom of the water heater. Another on the hot water line coming out of the water heater. A third valve is on a cross-over line connecting cold and hot water lines. To de-winterize, open the hot and cold valves and close the cross-over valve.There are three valves 1 for cold 1 for hot and 1 in the center by-pass. To go to by-pass mode turn off the cold and hot and open the middle valve now you are in by-pass mode.
