My real answer is that between 1e archetypes and multiclassing, you could do almost anything, but poorly. 2e allows you to really not suck when doing wild stuff. My current favorite builds are the sterling dynamo monk, and the rippling water stance monk with a witch dedication to get the elemental betrayal focus spell.The thorns are hazardous terrain.
