It is meant to sense pressure in the brake line. I replaced a speed sensor once in a 900 crew and it caused the ecm fuse to blow. Once unplugged it wasnt an issue. Ordered another new speed sensor and it fixed it. IMO all of your wiring is good because when the ect sensor is unplugged the ecm commands the fan to a predetermined speed based on a faulty sensor. It seems to me that if the stator was going bad or completely failed, you would have battery charge problems, as the stator (alternator) is what charges and maintains the charge of the battery along with the voltage regulator.
