Okay new here and just as new to outboard world. 1993 Johnson 40hp original with boat which is tracker 17ft when you go to take off it’ll rev up great and then stops at 3k rpms and you’ll cruise about 9mph if you intermittently push the “choke” it’ll take off about 4500 rpms and run about 25mph this boat was ordered ...To set the timing on that 115hp Evinrude, have the s/plugs out, and have the throttle at full, set that timer base under the flywheel tight against the rubber stop on the end of the full spark timer advance stop screw (wire it against that stop if necessary). Aug 9, 2018 · Here is a pic the 2 orange dot must touch when you advance the throttle with the control. To get the engine out of quick start disconnect the white/black wire and ground the white/black coming from the power pack. This will put the engine into normal operation. To disable the slow mode just disconnect the tan wire.

Re: 1968 18 HP Evinrude ignition timing I loosened the cam, actually took it off so that I could look at it and understand how the adjustment worked. The bolt at the high speed end goes though a hole so that end cannot really be adjusted. Definately adjust the idle in gear in the water. Mine idles at 1800rpm on muffs and about 900 in the water.The timing fixture makes it possible to get the points set dead-on for ultimate timing accuracy between the magnets passing by the coil and points opening time. Points opening time is more important than the distance they open. Just setting them 0.020″ is “good enough”, depending on manufacturing variations and your skill.

Had an ignition issue at end of last year and I replaced stator, timer base, powerpack and voltage regulator. Now, at idle forward it hovers around 650rpms which is great most of the time. However occasionally it dips down to 600rpms and wants to stall. No lean sneeze or anything this is not a carb issue. All throttle plates are closed at idle.

The carbs does not have an 'idle stop' adjustment. The important is to get the carbs starting to open at the timing specified when the arrow on #47 lines up with the roller on the carb (pick up timing). From that point and down in rpm, it is all about reducing timing to get correct idle rpm.
