I do have limited exposure with the 1301 but a high count yardage on the benelli m4, I shot nearly 60.000 rounds with the benelli, if your primary consideration is toughness and reliability I would give the nod to the m4, BUT, it has some shortcomings, the top rail is not a real picatinny, the collassable stock is awful, and it's HEAVY, and I mean HEAVY.. the …GUN TESTS GRADE: B. $500. The M4 is a tank, very heavily built with a big following. Both excellent guns, but the 1301 just feels better in my hands, if you can, try shooting both & see what feels better to you, with shotguns personal preference seems to vary alot. It's hard to go wrong, both excellent guns. The M4 will hold it's value better.

The M4 is more of an iconic battle proven shotgun but really only has a self defense role in my eyes. The 1301 comp pro can do everything, sporting clays, general range fun and is light and nimble enough to play a self defense role if need be. Both will serve you well but the 1301 comp pro is the best do it all shotgun from my experience. The actions are similar, but very different for loading (1301 raises the lifter for fast loading when the action is closed, while the a400 does not). Also the carrier button (underside in front of trigger) seems less prone to accidental engagement on the comp pro. I believe the Comp (not pro) and a400 are similar though.79K subscribers in the Shotguns community. Ha! The LE tactical version of the 1301 popped up on my LGS's website this morning. They had one each of the pistol grip and standard stocks. I hadn't seen that version pistol grip before and would have liked to handle it, but I didn't want to take a chance on snooze and lose, so I just bought the standard stock online and will go pick it up later today.

The 1301 Comp is a standard frame, the 1301T is not. It feels tiny in the hand and largely negates needing an SBS. For comparison, a Benelli M4 14" SBS with fixed stock is longer than a standard 1301T with Magpul stock. That's the magic of the 1301T, not the gas versus recoil operating systems.
