Marlin 39a serial number dates.
I challenge anyone to produce a 39a, with the brass insert grip cap, that has a serial number prefix other than an "H". Also the white buttplate spacer wasn't added until 1951 either. There was an insert, in the 1952 catalog, dated 3/52 that said the program was stopped. I found my scan of it. It's hard to read, but you get the idea.

The guy said there is no chart he could send me but he did say the serial number: MR22xxxC signifies a manufacture date in 2012. No other information was given. My guess is that it was manufactured in February 2012.

This 39A has been sitting up on a shelf in a padded case since he bought it, has not had a single round through the barrel, and is in mint condition. I checked the serial number and since it starts with 21, I put the manufacture date at sometime in 1979.
