It does help to disinfect first AFAIK, I always disinfect before treating my wounds however I don't think that it is necessary all the time. AFAIK just make sure the bandages are clean and also the wound isnt infected, if infected make sure you sterilise it. Putting a bandage on it does stop the active bleeding, but at the cost of making it dirty almost immediately, and taking forever to heal. Generally wounds like that are rare, unless you just through a window with glass or step in glass. You can get deep wounds other ways but those are the main reasons, at least for me.It's not a zombie infection unless you actually got bitten or scratched by a zombie.
